Hmmm… well, I certainly have an appetite for all sorts of things—- especially FOOD! And I do (almost daily) exercise. But last week, while peacefully reading my latest detective story, Charm City by Laura Lippmann, the protagonist Tess was musing on her exercise routine. Please see above excerpt.
That sent me directly to the internet. I wanted to know how many miles a day on a stationary bike is good for a 72 year old woman? Even half an hour at a moderate pace was good, I learned. Thirty minutes can burn off 260 calories. If I do an hour, and go ten miles, I could burn MORE! So, even though I am moderate to slower, I get my hour in 5x a week. I like giving myself the weekend off!
The other good news is that riding my stationary bike could extend my life! It contributes to my well-being, helps combat stress, depression and anxiety, lowers blood pressure, improves blood sugar levels, gives me more energy and it’s much easier on my joints than other kinds of exercise.
So…will I offset a weight gain of ten pounds over the year? That would be great! I will feel better anyway, though, contributing to my all-over Peacefulness!
You may read it in a book or a magazine today, but really, some of you learned it back in pre-school from Miss Nancy at Romper Room:
Bend and stretch…Reach for the sky!
Stand on tippy-toes…oh so high!
Bend and stretch…Reach for the stars!
There goes Jupiter…Here comes Mars!
It doesn’t matter so much WHAT exercise routine you choose so much as Choosing one that you like enough to do on a regular basis!
Okay, that’s my little pep talk for the day. Take care, feel good, find Peace! Ciao for now! Patty ✌️🐥💕🏋🏽♀️🤸♂️🧘🏻♂️🏊🏻♂️🚴♂️🏌🏻♀️
